DJ Soda Interview April 2005 Page 2...
Interviewed by Somsay.

Please tell us about DnB producer Pacific…are doing breaks together under the alias Karma? How did that come about from? Are you gonna break him in?
Well he’s breaking me in as far as learning the ropes of production. I approached him about doing some work together and he was down. He has a lot on his plate with his own music doing drum n bass, but he is also one half of Quadra where he does mostly down tempo. He hates the name Karma, but we’ve already started the press for the releases so he’s stuck with it now. I chose the name cause I used to be a tagger when I was a kid and that’s what I used to tag. We’re not hippies or Buddhists, but I do believe in karma to a certain extent.

What style are you two working on for your breaks endeavor with Pacific?
All styles really. The first remix we did was more on the rollin’ darkside of breaks. Pacific’s drum n bass influence really came through on this one. The next remix we’re doing is going to be something completely different. We want to explore the sound as a whole, as producing breaks tunes is really new to both of us. Pacific has been writing tunes for quite awhile and has some major drum n bass releases out now and coming out soon. He just did 2 drum n bass remixes for the house label Credance. One of a Lee Cabeara tune which is on promo now and one of a Danny Howells tune that is coming out soon. Plus the first Quadra album is coming out on their new label Quadra Music. The Karma breaks thing is just another extension of his production, with me. I come from a mostly breakbeat background, and have been DJing the sound for quite sometime so it makes it fun to get into the studio and convey my ideas with his production skills.

Who is your favourite dj and why?
DJ Soda= Mat The Alien. He's one of the best DJs in the world. Easily the best in Canada. Such a humble guy, with so much talent. Deep crates, plays all over the board. Plus his turntablist skills are crazy.
I caught Mix Master Mike at the Beastie show this past year, and he is truely on some next level shit.
I dig drum n bass DJs a lot too. Zinc is easily one of my favs. Pacific can lay it down proper too.
For breaks, its all about Terry Hooligan from Atomic Hooligan.

What do you think of these questions?
DJ Soda= Some of them were pretty silly. Vancouver breakbeat star? Is there such a thing. Well Czech I guess is a rock star!
Groupies?... Actually the groupies question was kind of funny cause this girl I know called me the other day and was like "I hear you have girls that follow you around everywhere you DJ"... I was like yeah right introduce me!

Words of wisdom:
DJ Soda= Be true to yourself.
