The Interview
Hello, and how has the new year of 2005 been to you so far mr Transformer Man?
Good thanks, more gigs on the horizon, lots of releases ( original and
remixes ) coming in the next few months.
What current breakbeat projects are you currently working on and please tell us how it is going?
I have releases coming on bassrock, and also some engineering work for the
bassrock management which im looking forward to.
How did you meet Stuart from No More Shadows?
He sent me a demo mix cd a long while ago, and then we met up for a gig in
Birmingham, a super chap!
Is there a goal that you have for 2005--working on a new sound for Transformer Man--trying to hit the breaks charts?
To cover lots of areas of breaks within my music, to try and push my music boundaries as far as i can.
How is the underground scene in the UK in your opinion?
Still to underground,
Are you currently working with any vocalist or any plans for the future to do so?
Not at present, apart from myself !
Do you have a normal job on the side of breaks?
I mend broken computers!
Anyone at work know about your alter ego?
No i keep it a complete secret.
Did you study music in school? And do you use music theory in anyway for your breaks?
I studied music a little at school, but im mainly self taught, i learnt all the production techniques and instruments myself.
What does your breaks studio consist of?
PC, 2 UAD 1 cards, Powercore card, decks, alesis monitors, lots of valve outboard, and some nice microphones.
Do girls call you more frequently since you started playing out? If so do they talk to you or do they just giggle and hang up?
No there are no other girls except my wonderful and pretty girlfriend
Leonie, she is all that i ever want.
What computer platform do you work on? A PC or Mac and why?
I use a pc , i think becuase i spend so much time using them and know them
inside out.
What sequencer do you use? And why?
Logic, it does all i need in a sequncer. I can operate fast and efficently within it.
Did you learn about eqing and sound dynamics by yourself or did you attend any of those reknowned technical sound schools in the uk?
All my own teachings! I had my first mixer when i was 9 years old!
What are you inspirations to create you amazing tracks? Your enviroment?
I think its from wanting to hear stuff that i just dont hear, wanting to
create music that is just a little different.
Who were your influences?
I love general midi, also alex empire stuff, and i love aquasky productions
too.
Who in the world of breaks do you socialize with?
Well , my friend Alan Flint, hes a wealth of musical knowledge, and also Crazy Horse, hes a good man to have around.
I understand that you are a very very tall person...are you going to battle Tall Paul in the near future?
I will if i get the chance!
Your show on Breaksfm is very entertaining, you have great humour--how did you first meet up with them and can you please talk about your awsome show?
Hehehe, well glad you enjoy it, the show will return soon on a new station, I will let you know once its up and running. I just like to have fun and laughs on the radio, its what this music is all about!
Do you have any funny or embarrasing times dj? And what was the stupidest thing a clubber has ever asked you while performing?
Hmm well, i have been asked to play "Chart" music many times, i just play a bootleg here or there to satisfy those people, but i am an entertainer, so have to be flexible.
Have you ever promoted your own club night?
Yes it was called freek, and is returning soon!
Do you go out much to see other breakbeat artists perform? And if so who do you like to go out to see?
General midi, he rocks the show!
Do you listen to Annie Nigtingale's radio show on radio one? If so what do you think of it?
I dont have much time to check the radio , but she does a good job.
How much time on average do you spend on producing a remix and how much time can you spend on an original track?
Hmmm, it can vary many a great deal, some tracks take a few hours, others take many days.
What was your best gig out and why?
Caracho club in Spain, great atmosphere and super club!
What is your production process--do you produce then shop arround your tracks to labels or you just go with the flow? Please tell us about the process.
I have a few release channels, i tend to see what tracks will fit best with
different labels output.
Do you use the virus synth for your basslines?
No i havent tried that synth at all yet! Maybe soon!
It seems like breaks are going in every direction musically--what do you think of the future of breaks--any predictions to where it is goin?
I think that to many boundaries have been placed already, i hope these are
taken down and people just start having fun again!
Any future aspirations or Words of wisdom?
Try your best, that is allways good enough.
Shout outs:
To leonie and oscar, all my love
